چکیده

Method The study was designed as prospective randomized double blind non-inferiority trial. Primary end-point was area under the curve (AUC) of creatine kinase MB (CKMB) within the first 24 hours after surgery. Secondary endpoints included, peak CKMB and troponin-T and AUC of troponin-T release, cardiac index, cumulative catecholamine dose, ICU-stay and mortality. All values are given as mean ± SD, p < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.

Custodiol versus blood cardioplegia in complex cardiac operations: an Australian experience.

OBJECTIVES A single or dual-dose strategy for myocardial protection is attractive in long operations, in avoiding the need to interrupt the procedure to re-administer cardioplegia. We hypothesized that a single administration of Bretschneider histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) crystalloid solution (Custodiol) offers myocardial protection comparable with repeated tepid blood cardioplegia. ...

Protocol TOP-Study (tacrolimus organ perfusion): a prospective randomized multicenter trial to reduce ischemia reperfusion injury in transplantation of marginal liver grafts with an ex vivo tacrolimus perfusion

BACKGROUND Critical organ shortage results in the utilization of extended donor criteria (EDC) liver grafts. These marginal liver grafts are prone to increased ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) which may contribute to deteriorated graft function and survival. Experimental data have shown that the calcineurin inhibitor tacrolimus exerts protective effects on hepatic IRI when applied intravenousl...

Pulmonary perfusion with oxygenated blood or custodiol HTK solution during cardiac surgery for postoperative pulmonary function in COPD patients: a trial protocol for the randomized, clinical, parallel group, assessor and data analyst blinded Pulmonary Protection Trial

BACKGROUND Five to thirty percent of patients undergoing cardiac surgery present with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and have a 2- to 10-fold higher 30-day mortality risk. Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) creates a whole body systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) that could impair pulmonary function. Impaired pulmonary function can, however, be attenuated by pulmonary perfusi...

Celsior Versus Custodiol: Early Postischemic Recovery After Cardioplegia and Ischemia at 5°C

Background. The aim of this experimental study was to compare the protective efficacy of the cardioplegic solutions Celsior and Custodiol. Canine hearts were examined with regard to energy metabolism and early postischemic recovery after 8 or 12 hours of ischemia at 5°C. Methods. Canine hearts were preserved with Celsior or Custodiol (each n 19). Five hearts of each group were used to determine...

Custodiol for myocardial protection and preservation: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION Custodiol cardioplegia is attractive for minimally invasive cardiac surgery, as a single dose provides a long period of myocardial protection. Despite widespread use in Europe, there is little data confirming its efficacy compared with conventional (blood or crystalloid) cardioplegia. There is similar enthusiasm for its use in organ preservation for transplant, but also a lack of d...
